More painting action today...day 11

Almost all the students are finished with painting their pieces with the Gesso ground.  Some were fanning their paint dry today so they could begin drawing their designs on them, as in the video.  I'm pleased with the enthusiasm they are showing for this first project.

Today I demonstrated the process they will use to connect the pieces into the necklace.  They will make an "eye" at the end of a copper wire around a round nose pliers.  They they will determine exactly where the loop will be placed and spot it with a pen.  They will then place their piece into a vise and drill the hole for the wire.  They will glue the wire loop into the side of the pieces and connect them with jump rings.  I may mount the drill bit into a piece of dowel rod so they can be more careful in the drilling.

Here are a couple of photos taken today along with a brief video.

Design ideas...day 7

Using the same student's work asthesee last post,  I ran these through a drawimg program to show students what some possibilities might be .  I couldn't get some of them to post correctly so they are sideways.

They can choose to either repeat the same design on each piece or lay them out and have the design flow .

The work continues...day 6

When I laid out this students pieces for the necklace a potential design opportunity presented itself.  By re-arranging the pieces choices became evident in the way one could paint them and connect them.  As more works get to this point I will post some more.

Today most students have developed their designs, rduced the size in four stages, re-drawm on mat board, and begun to cut out the shapes.  I have posted some pics of students' works in progress.

Some students have already begun gluing their pieces together.  The next post will highlight some of thise.
